| Hi I can't find any reference to the Guards Depot (particlularly Irish Guards) being in Wuppertal around 1950- 1953 (I was born in BMH Wuppertal in 1951- now Bethesda Hospital). Does anyone know which barracks they were in and where the married quarters would have been? | |

Welcome
There are other experts who have a better knowledge of Wuppetal than I but I believe that in 1951 4 Guards Brigade was in the Dusseldorf area. Brigade Headquarters and one Battalion were in Hubelrath on eastern outskirts of Dusseldorf, a second Battalion was in across the River Rhine in Krefeld, the third in Wuppetal together with the BMH.
The Irish Guards were in Hubbelrath, the Welsh Guards in Wuppetal.
We also have contributors who drop in from time to time who know the Dusseldorf area better than I (I was based in the Barracks next to the Airport in the mid 1970s, the German Army were using the ex Guards Barracks by then though there were still some Married Quarters still in use by the British Army in nearby Ratingen)

| I seem to remember going to a farewell dance for one of the Guards battalions at Hubelrath in july/aug 1954 - I've an idea it was the Coldstreams but I could be wrong - and come to think of it, it could also have been at Krefeld!!! | |

One of my pretty reliable sources shows 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards as being stationed in Bradbury Barracks Krefeld from November 1952 to November 1955.
Same source shows the Irish Guards leaving Hubbelrath in June 1953 and being replaced by 2nd Battalion Scots Guards
