Well spotted Ginger ! And does the L/Cpl in No.1s , and holding a ceremonial sink plunger, have brothel creeper soles on his boots ?
Looks like they're well over 1" (25mm) thick............ but well polished and probably some Scaley specials to give protection from earthing.

Oops!  WTF are those ?  .......... And why Ammo Boots anyway

In my limited experience I've had Boots brown, Burma, ( withdrawn & soaked in black stuff before I'd bought a tin of Dark Brown Kiwi),  Ammo boots with lots of shiny studs which had to be polished, Boots POL with neoprene soles fixed on with non-sparking, brass studs, uncomfortable DR Boots which limited circulation when the buckles were pulled tight around flesh below the knees, Boots DMS with nylon in-soles, and best of all, some high legged US kit, brown with rubber soles and a daily loan issue for winter guard mounting. And, of course, opportunities to become familiar with Boots, Old, but no more about that ! ........

But tap-tap  boots ?  Wot's  that ?

A fashion adopted by the Brigade of Guards (If they still have a Brigade?). Quite simply it is a pair of boots fitted with two soles, makes small Guardsmen look taller. Very Happy Very Happy

It probably has the same effect as the "Personalised" beret, sewn in creases etc - makes him feel like a bit of a sweat!

The reply to my request for information on the boots

Not sure which photo you gleaned my boots from (22 Sigs?) but yes, MANY years ago I had them resoled by a German cobbler.

Lasted another 20 years
