| Would appreciate if is anyone could guide me in to the location of the accommodation blocks at Haltern Ranges, or where they were if they no longer exist. We came down to a range camp somewhere near Dulmen, which I now know was Haltern Ranges. The OR accommodation was single story brick buildings that had whitewashed interior wall - sleeping on camp beds. The trucks were parked the other side of a road, outside the Officer and SNCOs accommodation. There was a short section of rocky track between the accommodation and the range, and I guess the rock was to keep cars out of the area. My Army map is at Mark's Army mapMany thanks | |

| Sorry, but I can't remember exactly where the barracks were, although I remember what the interior looked like just as you described them. I think they were on the right side of the road when you entered the camp, but I'm not sure.
That track was probably the roughest road I've ever driven on, and we had to go up and down it several times a day. Despite that, there were a lot of civilians going to and fro when I was there last, which was back in 1965. There was also a civilian glider club operating further down the road.
I usually say "happy times", but not when talking about Haltern or, worse still, Rheinsahlen where we used to overnight on the way to and from Soltau or Putlos. | |

| Was Haltern Ranges that area of scrub below Dulmen RAOC (the blue rectangle), where it says Haltern-Borkeberge? | |

| Thanks for having a look. The OR accommodation as I recall was a single building, with the SNCO /Officers accommodation being a single building the other side of the track - but maybe the cookhouse was that side as well - or was it in a tent. Anyway, when you leave the accommodation the track was tree lined and you had to drive over a section that looked like you were driving over a rocky river bed - which brought you to a T junction with a muddy track. Turing right, we drove up a clay slope to access the ranges. Osnabruck's local range was an old ww2 airfield near Vorden. Had 3 range lanes. In amongst the trees is concrete landing craft that the Germans had been training with. On the far side was a Dutch unit - apparently missiles, who lived in tents The site In the bottom left corner - Two rifle lanes and a small arms range Concrete structures and building from ww2 And the Danish in the top right corner of the site | |
