Hello, I wonder if you can help. I am looking for information about my late father's posting to Bad Driberg in the early part of 1946.
His address was Capt. James Allan Wark MC, 9 A10 c/o HQ. 917 (RB) Mil. Gov.Det. BAOR.
Where is the best place to look? He never talked about his time in Germany after the war. He fought in the D Day landings. "C" Coy " 2nd. Glasgow Highlandersun 26th where he was wounded and after which he was awarded his MC, Thank you Kirsty

Hi and welcome Kirsty,
Mil Gov Det will be a difficult one to Research. Someone may come forward and help you?
By the way. Check your spelling. I believe Bad Driburg might be correct?
I have checked the Driburg Det at one small info area at the Imperial War Museum , London. Where there are a number of Hannover photos of the Detachment.
National Archives at Kew, London will be where the Archives will be.
I could direct you to a person who specialises in obtaining Archives from Kew. Of course at a cost. I have used him many times. He is not expensive!
The National Archives (TNA) seem to be in rather a muddle at the moment,. So obtaining archives have become very difficult, if not impossible? Due to Covid restrictions.
Good Luck. Alan

Welcome Kirsty
Not researching Military Government at the moment but have the following on record taken from original documentation held at the Public Records Office Kew:
917 (RB) Military Government Detachment became HQ Military Government (R) Arnsberg 25 Jan 46 responsible for the whole of Regierungsbezirk (Administrative District) Arnsberg.
9 Area Intelligence Office was based in Arnsberg and had numerous Intelligence Teams (46-62) but do not have the locations listed.
Can only find 917 Military Government Detachment Kew documentation for Oct 45 = WO 171/8105.
Best of luck with your research

UPDATE 8 August 2020
Due to the current COVID-related restrictions in place at the National Archives, ARCRE can only offer a very limited copy service at this time.
Only orders from the following record series will be processed:
AIR 81, WO 374, WO 339, FCO 168, FO 1110, HS 9
The standard charge of 10 pence per page, with a minimum charge of £5.00 per document will apply on the above record series only.
Taken from the guys site who does research for me:
This seems to be the situation at the Archives.
Currently only one visit to the National Archives is allowed per week for a maximum of four and half hours. Competition to reserve a weekly appointment is fierce. Therefore, regrettably, no guarantees can be given regarding delivery times. Priority will be given to pre-existing orders.
Only registered users can place document copying orders.
