My mom work in the Naafi as the head cook....1978 ish until my dad was posted to 4 Armd Workshops in Detmold in 1981 ish....certainly remember the day the "Budgies" (1RRF) arrived and the Naafi staff served "Trill" for lunch!!...LOL...
Remember the Barracks very well....as I attended Suffolk Primary School at the back gate...
Most notable was the inscription (I think over the main gate??).."Arbit Macht Frie" (Work makes you free)...and the pill box right by the main gate with the gun slits pointing inwards...
Was this a Wermacht Penal Battalion Barracks before and during the war??....
I remember the Cheshire's in Minden too...had a lot of School friends amongst the Battalion....was ashame to see them go when the RRF moved in.
Anybody who was there at the same time and remebers "Little" Sheila in the Naafi...drop me a line....even as a kid....very fond memories!!

I enjoyed Minden and Elizabeth brks. I moved there in '82, having been posted down from Fallingbostal. I was attached to 1 RRF, I remember the "hackle" making a hell of a mess on the interior roof lining of my shiny new Honda Accord. I think it was late '83 when 3 Royal Anglian took over. The beret was a horrible colour but at least it didn't make a mess of my car!!

Hi Jim
Yes, In Minden at Elizabeth Barracks. I was posted there in late '82 from 3 Queens at Fallingbostal. It was probably a year later when 3 Royal Anglian took over.
Kind Regards
Paul

Hi, Ed
These pictures take me back. I was REME attached to 1 Black Watch when they took over Elizabeth Barracks from the Cameronians. I was only there for nine months, when the RSM asked REME Records for a punishment posting for me. (He and I never got on together, as he insisted on calling me "Fitter" instead of Craftsman). Someone with a sense of humour in REME Records posted me to BFPO 6, and I ended up attached to the NATO Signal Sqn 227 Sigs for over 3 years in France and Holland. Some posting. I remember the AFV 432 coming into service in Minden, and the photo of the Austin K9 you posted was my truck on crashout.
