There are more photos in the gallery at spikeslist.us I was stationed in Sennelager and Bergen-Hohne from 1976 to 1980. 15th USA Field Artillery Detachment attached to the BAOR for Special Weapons support. I was going through some old photos and found some that were from the Queen's Silver Jubilee parade when she visited Sennelager. I remember that the parade was way out in the field and as there were no toilet facilities, they built HM her own privy. It had a little white picket fence and green grass garden. That's all I remember, except that I was told that she did not use it. I don't remember the parade and I don't remember taking the photos. There were only 35 men in my unit. We had our own barracks building but the BOAR provided us with drivers and vehicles when we needed them. We shopped at the NAFFI and watched Star Wars at the Globe. British women worked in our mess. Our married officers lived in British housing. I think we all got along very well. I don't miss it but it was an interesting time.

Certainly, the silver jubilee of HRH Queen Elizabeth in Sennelager 1977 was unique. In those days I was an MCTG driver of 607 MCTG RCT and our task was to provide public transport. However, our public transport was limited to ordinary folk. All the celebrities got special transport by hired private coaches. Obviously the Bedford tin boxes were not good enough for the invited guests.

I was in NI. Things were a bit busy in 1977, so I was scarcely aware of the jubilee. The CO of 2LI was wounded by a sniper, ditto the Padre, a Coy commander and a CSM, plus a few others. They were replaced by 45 CDO, who put things to rights with the neighbours.
