| Gentlemen, During a "dig" I've uncovered a programme for "The Review of the Army, Sennelager, 7th July 1977." (To us, the Jubilee Parade). 4 Div, 6 Armd Bde and 20 Armd Bde ran it all with 2 Armd Div as Support Division. The beauty of it is there is a list of troops on parade on the day, a lot of Regiments which no longer exist, of course. What appeals to me is that for each regiment they have listed the CO, the Adjt and the RSM. Only the COs are listed for 2 Div though. I was in Ireland when it was all going on (phew!) but if I can look up something from the programme for you, give me a shout. PS, I also have a copy of "The Craftsman" for March 1992 brum | |

| That's brilliant. Thanks very much. I had just left 30 Fd Amb when this happened, planning was happening as I left. There are many stories about the parade including the fact the a lot of the 'cues' for movement was a dustbin going up an down the flagpole behind the stand that the Queen was in! | |

I was attached to the QRIH in Detmold then but was also not at the parade due to being in Ireland! I do remember doing the dry run preparations , just cannot remember when , it may have been earlier on that year or even the year before. Where you with the QRIH by any chance? I was with A sqn at Pomeroy. |

| reme ece No mate, the only contact I had with QRIH was when I went with their Battlegroup to Canada, must've been '78. When the Jubilee parade was on I was in Lurgan. Hope I didn't cause any confusion mentioning the "Craftsman", it was my son's. He was a VM with QOH. | |

| Hi Brum, I remember it well. I was RMP at the time. A few of us travelled down from Berlin to make the numbers up. There was a dress rehearsel for the parade. Some idiot decided that meant dressing in "Blues" In the middle of Summer in "Senne" can only mean dust. I think most of us spent the night beating dust out of our uniforms. "Bloody Good Parade"though. | |

I remember the bullshit although I luckily was not involved in the parade even if my 432 was. Be nice if the OP could scan and put the names up. One should be our OC Tony Boyle, 20 Armd Bde HQ & Sig Sqn who later became Major General, SOinC. Nice bloke.

Well done that man ! Brum And QOH (Queers on Horseback), Sorry lads only joking were a Brummie outfit. RSM Homewood was a real gentleman as well and it isn't often you can say that about an RSM. No comment on the Brigadier but I did drive/operate for him once and it was "interesting" to say the least. That apart it was really funny when we were observing QOH exercising and over the radio came the immortal words "watch out, the brigadier is around somewhere". Yes he was and he had a radio too! So much for procedure and security!

| You're not wrong Graham, we used to have quite a good social life. A couple of bottles of Vino Collapso and a set of dommies mid-week, we used to look forward to it. Sounds impossible now but I used to follow "The Archers" every night on the radio. None of us had ever seen colour TV until one night we dropped in at the RMP office in Hohne to find out our unit's location and there it was, in the corner. We stood gaping at it like a bunch of yokels ! Was it Hohne or Berlin who got it first ? I know our area still hadn't got it when I was posted to Blighty. | |

When I first lived in Soest circa 1962 nobody had telvisions, just radios. When we returned to Soest in 1971, and having lived in Hemer area from '69 to '71, a few German families had TV but, as I recall, few of us did (since all programming was auf Deutsch anyway!). When I returned to Soest in '73 and linked up with a couple of British families they had 'tellies'. I don't recall off hand if any BFBS programming was available, but I seem to recall there was at least a weekly program (?). The only family -- the Potts (Brian and Yvonne and two kids) -- always had the telly on, constantly. Getting Brian out for a few beers was nigh impossible (Yvonne didn't like it, first off, but he was also attached to his telly!). As mentioned in other threads, having access to these satanic machines spelled the death nell for socialization. Shame, really, as going out to the gasthofs, taking off with family on weekends to visit castles or even shopping trips to Frankfurt or Amsterdam or what-have-you, all that sort of thing, is what "made" being in Germany so unique and special. Being glued to the telly in one's flat for ever and a day....may as well have not been in Germany at all!

| Ciphers, Yes Len, i can recall that time, without even having to think about it, why is `that`i hear you say. Because i had just celebrated my eighteenth birthday, in the April of that year, and my calling up papers were sitting on the top of the china cabinet. The house was also full to bursting, with most of the neighbours, who did not have a T/V set at the time. But with our household being a posh one, as they would say, in those days, my parents could afford to buy one. Strangely enough, it`s also my birthday today, though sadly i`m no longer eighteen, but a sprightly seventy five year old. In 1954, if my memory is true to me, the Queen visited Dortmund, for some occasion or other, and the 45th Field/R/A, fired off a salvo or two, to mark the occasion, i believe there to have been some big gathering of the dignitaries, and that of our Qeen, of the day, this took place at the Dortmund, Westfalenhalle. Some research may have to be done on this one, but i`m confident, something of this nature, took place, at that time. Stitch. | |

| Hi (Ciphers) It was just as you say Len, money was tight in those days, real tight. As you will recall it wasn`t to long after the War, and the country was heavily indebted to the Yanks. Nobody had much in the way that they `have today!!! I remember quite clearly, being demobbed only to start courting, then later tying the `knot as it were. The deposit for our first home, a one bedroom bungalow was a `hundred pounds sterling` a fortune at that time. The overall cost of the property being £726 pounds, `hell man that was an awful lot of money back then, an awful lot. It`s now some 52 years since we married and yes, i`m pleased to say, we are still going strong to this day. Stitch. | |

Stitch. Good on yer Stitch. Just wondering, as a mere youngster myself, I can remember people in the fifties and sixties saying to my elders "a mortgage is a millstone around your neck, you are better renting". A bit like Fraser in Dads Army, "We're all doomed". Did that happen to you?
