| It is well known that many of our well-known faces (and not so well known) served in BAOR either in National Service or as Regulars. For example Michael Caine, Leslie Grantham, George Roper, Sir Roger Moore, and many more besides. Here is one for you, I found this while checking some information:- http://www.britisharmedforces.org/pages/nat_bill_wyman.htmCan we name any more?? Paul | |

| Johnny Briggs (Corrie's Mike Baldwin) served in BAOR. I seem to remember an article/interview in Soldier Magazine a few years back. I believe he did two years national service in 1953 with the Royal Tank Regiment where he worked as a driving instructor and a gunner somewhere in Germany. He was saying he was once banged up in 'Bielefeld Nick' - it was notorious for being a hard place to do time... | |

| Jim. Leslie Grantham came to Leibenau the night/morning of the murder, he was put into one of the cells and screamed like a baby all night. Hated the man from that day to this. | |

| I know Tommy Cooper was A BLUE (Royal Horse Guard) but not certain he served in BAOR. When he became famouse he was invited to the Officers mess at Knightsbridge,he told them to get stuffed as he was never invited when in the Regiment! | |

| He may not have been a celebrity, but we had a Cpl Clerk in the CRASC at Catterick Barracks called Ironsides, nickname Tinny(Tinribs) he spoke with a refined accent but didn't lord it over any body. One day he was duty clerk and as I came down the stairs from seeing the RSM's maid,(that's another story) he asked me to mail a letter he had written to his grandfather,I looked at the address and it was going to Field Marshal Lord Ironsides. So the question was aked,if grandad was a Field Marshal and his Dad a general how come he was a Cpl in RASC. The simple answer was that as an Officer Cadet he had been caught signing one too many travel warrants in his own favour, and he was doing his time always with a friendly word and a smile on his face.A very nice person,he was as close as I ever got to a celebrity. | |
