| Hi Everyone. Found this site by chance. I was born at the above hospital in 1953. I have always wondered what the hospital looked like and now I do as there is an airial photo of the complex. Dad was in the Pay Corp at the time stationed in Minden. I think he was with the 13th 18th Hussars at the time. Just wondering in what barracks he would have been stationed at, assuming there was more than one barracks there. If anyone can help that will be great. | |

Welcome to the Forum David, good to have another join our happy band The 13th/18th Hussars were in Northampton Barracks 1953 to 1956, moving to McLeod Barracks Neumunster in 1956. And another useless piece of information Baden-Powell, of Scouting fame was a member of a forerunner of this Regiment, the 13th Hussars. Paul. | |

| My twins were born there in 1976. Went over for a visit in 1992 and asked if I could take a photo of them standing in front of sign. Was refused. Understandable with the IRA blowing everything up at the time but disappointing. | |

---- Don I don't know if you aware but IMHO we're now a bit better off now on the new system! Each garrison has been allocated a DGP (Dedicated German Practice), so for example if you live in 'Falling-Bar-Stool', Hohne or Celle and you need treatment you use the civvy hospitals in Hannover, in an emergency you go to the nearest A&E and our's was in Walsrode! | |

| My eldest son was born in BMH Rinteln in 1968, first class hospital and brilliant staff, the only thing that I did not like was the long drive from Detmold where I was serving with the Army Air Corps at the time. | |

| I was a civilian dependent who visited BMH Rinteln many times. My father was tech support for a large US signals hub based near Rinteln (518th Signal Company, 39th Signal Battalion US Army Linderhofe just outside Bosingfeld) I attend 5th and 6th Form there at Prince Rupert School just above the Hospital and had many friends and acquaintances there. We played football and cricket on the pitches there and would visit the small NAAFI there for an S&K pie after school and can remember hoisting a pint during the showing of the movie "Jaws" in 1976 in the mess above the NAAFI (across the street for the main entrance. I did contract a case of rheumatic fever as a young man and I received wonderful care there. Hats off to the lot of you who taught me so much way back when. Given the nomadic life of a military brat (as we Yanks are called however deservedly) I never thought I'd catch up with old school chums but they are all on Facebook or Friends Reunited nowadays! I do remember and love the sense of humor of everyone I met there. Just a couple notable examples: One of the popular orderlies there was named "Goodwin" and he used to have a good time teasing his mates until he contracted the mumps (he was 40-ish) and suffered some excruciating swellings. Practically the whole staff stopped saying "bollocks" and replaced it with "Goodwins" There was a very funny dental technician who helped my father get some dentures repaired. As you know they used plaster castings to model the prosthetics and then create the finished product. Unlike clinics today I could wander a bit while they chit chatted and much to my surprise discovered his plaster casts of his girlfriends boobs in the back room. I think they laughed for five minutes as I cocked my head in bewilderment. great times great people (and yes I remember the IRA scares) Thanks again guys and godspeed to all of you. If you ever make it to Phoenix Arizona I'll buy you a beer. I still see British Pilots come here for desert training for the Iraq Recces Edarmour@mac.com | |
