Looking at the amount of cover afforded by the Light gun, I think, under fire, I'd be inclined to adopt the "Prone, Unsupported" position. Never mind "Kneeling" !

| Hello Cartav, Your kind welcome to the BAOR site is much appreciated as well as your congrats on my startling and sudden promotion to corporal; yes, Bombardier sounds much better. I am still struggling with the vocabulary of the site and have just finished reading "Mr. Brown's War, A Diary of the Second World War" which has been helpful in this regard. Richard Brown lived in Ipswich during the war and was a member of the HG. Someone recently touted the tireless work ethic of the HR in a post to one of the forums. Thanks again Bob | |

| G'day Paul,
Could you advise how I can ask for help with a request for information relating to Austin Champ use/photos in BAOR regiments.
I'm restoring 46BE83 and I understand that it's ex-BAOR, as a fair number of BAOR Champs were purchased and brought to Australia. As well as 46BE83 I have an ex-Australian Army Champ, also under restoration.
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

G'Day and Welcome
Your query is just the question that members of this site delight in answering and it is good to have an Aussie back on board (somewhere in Tassie there is a British Army Ferret Scout Car loving restored to its BAOR 1960s condition)
Suggest you start a new topic titled CHAMP RESTORATION, contributors to this site can then quickly identify your needs.
Do you have a copy of the military vehicle log book? This would contain details of the user units so accuracy would be guaranteed

Alan (Australia) Alan, If you would like to find out details of you vehicle and where it was based, for £25 you can contact the RLC Museum who hold a lot of the 'B' Vehicle record cards. An explanation can be found at this link http://www.rlcmuseum.co.uk/docs/majorholdings.html#brecords and contact details are on the Museum site. Unfortunately, there is no firm guarantee they have the card for your vehicle, and the fee is not refundable. However, I think it's worth a try. Regards Nige

| G'day Guys, Thanks for the replies. I'm particularly after any info on Champ registration numbers and Regiments they were attached to. Photos would be greatly appreciated as they might help me decide on a Regiment/marking scheme for my ex BAOR Champ. Thanks for the link to the Logistics Corp Nige, but they're very slow off the mark as I sent a request with the money in early October and still haven't had a reply. Also, I've been told by my Champ Club colleagues that they hold few, if any, Champ records. As suggested, I'll start a new topic on my Champ restoration and see what comes my way. Cheers, Alan BTW I used to own an ex-Australian Army Ferret, Humber 1 Ton and Champ, but stupidly got rid of them years ago. Now I've retired the Champs are my "poison" | |

| The RLC museum doesn't have any service information for Champs. Someone at Chilwell many years ago decided that no-one would possibly want such information and destroyed all the record cards. They had certainly been destroyed prior to 1974. Unfortunately, the RLC museum levy a non-returnable fee just to look and tell you that they have no records
The Austin Champ Owners Club is is registered on the DVLA V765/1 list of Vehicle Owners Club
