| There is no mention of this barracks on the site. My records suggest both 77 HAA and 30 HAA Regiments were there between 1951 and January 1958. | |

Could this possibly have been the previous name of St Barbara Barracks in Delmenhorst?? Both those Regiments are listed as being there as well as 12 Regiment RA after them, and 5 AGRA (AA) Workshop at some time?? Paul.

Paul. No, St Barbara Bks is actually in Adelheide on an ex airfield south of Delmenhorst. Vancouver Bks was in the Deichhorst area in south Delmenhorst (53.02.26 N 8.35.39 E on Google Earth), incidently very close to where some of the Married Quarters were: Vancouver Bks - Delmenhorst-Deichhorst Post WWII Caspari-Kaserne was used as a displaced persons camp. 30th Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regt RA arrived in February 1951 into the renamed "Vancouver Barracks". On the 23. February 1951 HQ 5 AGRA was temporarily located here, on the 3. March, 77th Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regt. Handed over to the Bundewehr on 1st Feb 1958 and renamed Caspari-Kaserne. Closed in 1992 and demolished in 2000. http://www.caspari-kaserne.de/geschichte3.php?id=1Mike

| Thanks Mike, So, before I go playing "silly ) on the main site - Does hat mean that St Barbara and Adelheide (on the Delmenhorst page) could be one and the same, with Vancouver a seperate entry? Paul. | |

Paul. Correct Paul. Incidently, you show 72 LAA Regt RA under Adelheide; my info shows them moving from FARELF to Crerar Bks Oldenburg in '55 then to Gale Bks Oldenburg in '58 before being disbanded. The airfield at Adelheide was used to house Displaced Persons and then as an internment camp after the war. It was opened as St Barbara's Bks in 1951. Part of the site was handed over to the newly formed Bundeswehr in Oct '56 and named Boelke-Kaserne. Units that I know of there were: 74 LAA Regt RA arrived from Maple Leaf Bks Aurich in Jan '52 consisting of 229, 230 & 231 Btys. 230 & 231 Btys replaced by 158 & 161 Btys in Apr '55 and the Regt moved out en-route to Hong Kong in Jun '55. 35 LAA Regt RA arrived from Crerar Bks Oldenburg in Jun '55 with 90, 92 & 99 Btys. Regt disbanded in Apr '58 12 LAA Regt RA arrived Aug '58 from Churchill Bks Lippstadt with 'R', 'S' & 'T' Btys. 'R' & 'S' btys replaced by 9 & 34 Btys 01-Jan '59 and 34 Bty placed in suspended animation in Nov '60. Moved out en-route to Malaya in '63 and the bks handed over to the Bundeswehr. The following that is shown on the St Barbara's page should rightly go under Vancouver Bks: - Quote :
- Formerly known as Caspari Kaserne

- "My father was stationed here from 1954 to 1957 with 30 HAA Regt RA, equipped with 3.7" HAA Guns. The last time I was in Delmenhorst (about 1965), the Barracks had been returned to the Germans and was used by the Luftwaffe as a training centre for the Flak and FlaRak units. I seem to remember pieces of hardware, like a Nike-Hercules, Ju87 etc being place on the grass areas near the fence, and as gate guards."
Roger
I served in 209 bty 77th HAA Regt. R.A. February 1953 /October 1954 as the driver of Battery Volkswagen.
Have just been reunited with Lt. Bob Lavender. My wife and I visited him on the 27th November where we stayed until Saturday 29th. Sadly, Bob's Wife died last June.
Would like news about, Peter Hartland, Peter Harrison, Mike Steel, Bob Taylor. Bryan Everatt. More information on Caspari Kaserne can be found by clicking here. Cheers Mike
