- How English is England these days
Not very Stephen. I came back to England in 65 having been bought up pretty much in Germany. My dad was posted to the Small Arms School in Hythe in kent. That was very English believe me. Fast forward to '93 when I finished my service and found a country I didn't recognise, or much like I'm afraid to say

| I guess it all depends were I can get work, I've toyed with the idea of Alberta as I know the area fairly well having spent alot of time there with the Army. We've also spent time on holidays visiting places such as Niagra, Toronto and Montreal. I'd love to be near the Rocky mountains though, such a lovely stunning place. My kids were born in Germany and have never lived in the UK, it would be a shame to have to settle them there, well our fingers are firmly crossed for the future.

My kids were born in Germany and have never lived in the UK, it would be a shame to have to settle them there, well our fingers are firmly crossed for the future. Alberta is not a half bad place, all in all....a bit on the rightwing conservative end of the spectrum but even at that it is not nearly as "right wing" as the popular image would have it. Like any place, it has it's ups and downs. We've had the same party in power for something like 40 years, which is nuts....but politics aside, it is geographically a beautiful province....mountains, foothills, prairie...we got it all. The cities of Calgary and Edmonton, of which I am most familiar, are fine. I live in Calgary and while it is not what I would call a "charming city" it does have its charms....but basically, it's a place to live and the quality of life is good here. Too much suburban sprawl but whatever.... And there is money in Calgary, for some folk. One can make a decent living here, depending on one's field. Calgary is primarily based, economically, on oil and gas and if one is in that profession, or related to it, sure....life can be good and prosperous. As cities go, Calgary is not that "expensive" to live in, although housing costs are high (to buy or to rent....don't get me started on rents here!!! Waaaaay over the top.....).

| Another great clip that I have seen before Lieutenant General Sir Richard McCreery GCB KBE DSO MC took over from “Monty” Mar 46…did you note the 4th Armoured Brigade flashes “Green Rats”…according to JPW’s and my research Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons) – Marine Kaserne Husum to Luftwaffe Kaserne (future Loddenheide Complex) Münster Apr 46 to Wyvern Barracks formally Cavalry Kaserne Lüneburg Jul 46 to 7th Armoured Division Mar 48 So the location could be Münster with the GOC 1st Corps District: Lieutenant General Gwilym Ivor Thomas CB DSO MC and the Brigade Commander: Brigadier RMP Carver CBE DSO MC in tow Regards Steve...corrections welcome | |

| Have seen a similar clip /photo elsewhere (probably a Bad O page in German) and the portico behind the soldiers is Bad Oeynhausen. HQ BAOR was still in Bad O so Lt Gen McCreery was playing a home game so the mountains moved in his direction!
