| During my time in Osnabruck Jan !979 - Oct 1981 I remember a few lads saying that some of the 1970's TV series Colditz was filmed at Scarborough Barracks but I don't know if this was true. Allan Jacques = | |

| And here is one of Colditz. Hmmm! Could be with a bit of TV touching up. What do you think? | |

| According to www.imdb.com the locations for "Colditz" the TV Series (1972-74) were Calver Mill Derbyshire (exteriors) and Stirling Castle Scotland (title sequence and exteriors). | |

| It is interesting that the Colditz legend is still doing the rounds after all these years. I was at Scarborough Bks with 1 [BR] Corps Vehicle Coy RAOC from 1962 - 65 and it was being talked about then. If my memory serves me right, the WVS was called the Colditz Club. I have very fond memories of my time in Osnabruck where as a young single soldier I made many friends amongst the local community. The Keller Bar just across the road from the guardroom was the local haunt for many of us as was the Sedan Klause at the bottom of the hill near the NAAFI/SKC Cinema and Church Army. Happy and carefree days indeed. | |

| My dad Cpl/Sgt Jack Cooke served in Scarborough Bks from 1960-1970. 122 Tipper Coy RASC and 15 Sqn RCT. Anyone remember him or me (Jean). He did a lot of social work at the Garrison Social Club - Bingo Caller, Whist Drives, Teenange and All ranks dances etc. Love to hear from anyone who remembers any of these events or my family. We lived in Dodesheide - 15 Kastanienstrasse. | |

| Hello Jean. I regret to say that although it would appear your Dad and I were at Scarborough Bks at the same time [I was there 1962 -65] I do not recall ever meeting him. The RASC unit at that time was 15 [Tipper] Coy. | |

| Hi all
I served with 15 coy RASC from 1963-1965. Does anyone remember Dvr's Tony Coleman, Mike Cristy, Bill Brewer, Jim Bosley, Taff Harper and Chalky White, L/Cpl ? Losby, Sgt Woodgate was Platoon Sgt and Lt Chalky White was Platoon Com. We were sent to 10 company in Hamlin and returned to 15 Coy just before 10 & 35 Coy's went on strike, anyone remember that. 15 Coy was a happy place to be, great lads, nco's and officers, even the Oc was ok. We spent the winter of 1963 under canvas trying out the new track-layers with the Engineers, they where brilliant motors which were twice as fast as the AEC and Commer tippers, they used to lean over well on cornering. The Colditz Club got it's name because Scarborough Barracks looked like Colditz, but as far as I know, Scarborough Barracks wasn't used in the film. I left in July 1965 and was in Malaya for the Change-over to the RCT. I heard a number of lads went to Aden, shortly after I heard a few had be in the Convoy attacked by rebels. Any one remember me? | Jeez that first image brings back loads of memories.... The block with the scaffold on is the /or was in 1984-87 when our unit was there this block was occupied by the RAOC. The little bluilding on the left was the Signal Squadron QM store and offices... The building partially shown roof only on the extreme left was the cookhouse.

Hello Jean. I was in B troop 15 Sqn RCT at the time you mention and remember meeting several girls in town that lived in Dodesheide (up the tank road as we used to say). Our troop sergeant at the time was Sgt Pickering. I can't remember your dad but may well have served with him (my memory is shocking these days). I remember a very tall corporal named Sandy, I think his surname was Saunders, and then a smaller bloke who had a couple of daughters that I used to babysit few times. This corporal was, I think, one of the few remaining national servicemen that signed on, and I have in the back of my mind that he served in Korea. Any help

Allan Jacques = Hello. I was in 15 Sqn RCT 1966 to 1968, I was in B troop and pretty sure the troop sgt was Sgt Pickering, I cant remember troop commanders name but have memories that he married the daughter of someone high up in the government of Malta. Ref the Colditz saga, I too heard the story and have photos of the Name Colditz Club above the WVS club but never got to the bottom of the story. Several photos on this site of Scarborough Barracks bring back memories. I have also read the description of a pub outside the main gate guard room that brings back memories, although during my days that gate was then the back gate and the main gate and guard room was at the opposite end of the camp. The gate was almost always locked and we used to scale the fence to get in or out (good times eh). I would love to hear from old friends that were in 15 Sqn during my time.
