I asked my grandson (signals).the same question.Apparently it has ,as Teabag says, something to do with being part of a HQ..I also noticed recently that R. Signals now have a Corps RSM.What`s that all about and when did it start? Independent Signal Sqns had WOII SSMs. I believe the reason for a WOI RSM at a Brigade Signal Sqn was just that. He was the senior Other Rank in both the HQ and the Signal Sqn, which I suppose was considered to be of Regiment-ish size, although some Ind Sqns could be fairly large. Yes, I noticed that there was now a Corps RSM at Blandford. Must have brought that in because there are a whole lot fewer RSM posts nowadays. Mike

Ah, but he wasn't, all Bde HQ's had Conductors as the Super Clerk.
Well in my day anyway. | |

"Stores are for storing, if they were for issuing they'd be called Issues." That's what I was told by a WO111 in the stores. And yes, he claimed he was a WO111, he was from some obscure lancer Regiment.

Well in my day anyway. Ah yes. Good point, although the RSM was boss of the Mess. I believe that Conductors had the choice of whether to be Mess members or not. Maybe I should have said the guy in charge of ORs discipline. Mike
