of all the places i served lubbecke was by far my favourite, i have photos of all the other places but alas all my photos of tunis bks were stolen in a burgalry, have tried over the years to find photos of the camp but no luck if any body has any i would love copies, i can picture the camp so clearly in my mind but would love some photos, i know its a long shot but worth a try. paul.

Hi, I live in Lübbecke and I served 17-19 at the ARRC in Innseorh/ Gloucestershire. I remrmber the British solders from my teenager time. As active DEU officer from Lübbecke I am very lnterested in the history of British Forces in my home town.

by 18 Jul 47 only the following units were in Lübbecke to support the Control Commission:
Garrison Engineer Lübbecke Royal Engineers 1054 Casualty Receiving Station Royal Army Medical Corps by 15 Jan 48 Central Medical Inspection Room Lübbecke 6 Sub Office 2 Pioneer and Civilian Labour Unit Pioneer Corps
Tunis Barracks remains unconfirmed and not shown on a BAOR original document issued 13 Sep 46.
In 1958 HQ 2nd Infantry Division moved from St David’s Barracks Hilden to the Tax House replacing the disbanded 6th Armoured Division details here https://www.baor-locations.org/BirdwoodLP.aspx.html also the Divisional HQ is reported to have moved to Lübbecke just prior to disbandment, know that 2nd Infantry Divisional units were stationed in Tunis Barracks Lübbecke and Birdwood Barracks Bünde.
When I have completed https://britisharmyingermany.com up to 1 Mar 49 hope to continue forward as there are clearly errors on the internet.
Hope this helps

Tunis Barracks is (after much discussion in Minden-Lübbecke) was re-developed for housing. The Barracks lay between Mindenerstrasse (B65) and Gehlenbeckerstrasse. (purple outline on attached .jpg map) Nowadays approaching from Minden the new-build Zollamt (Customs Office where parcels and packets from outside EU (and from UK) are assessed for customs duty) is approximately on the north eastern edge of the former barracks plot. Advocates of What3words and Google maps might look at "sulkily.replicating.hotter" or "melodrama.reordering.chuckling" to find points within the former barracks.
Map is from 1992 (Part of the site assessment for re-build)

Safe to say Tunis Barracks was a new build despite the Wiki records, does not appear on the 1944 map available online, so assume built early 1950s along with Birdwood Barracks Bünde, my newest location statement is Oct 48, Control Commission units were no longer listed by this time as no longer BAOR command, for future research we need to find out when the Control Commission HQ Lübbecke move out of the Tax House, know that HQ 2nd Infantry Division moved in from St David’s Barracks Hilden in 1958 not to Tunis Barracks as the www shows, or did they move in 1959 via Tunis Barracks?

30th Battalion Loyal Regiment (North Lancashire) – General Headquarters Troops – Bohlenstraße 17 – disbanded 19 Jun 46 not 19 Jun 45, therefore they were the Garrison Troops
