His name might be J. Kanyon/Kenyon/Konyon (sadly i do not know more than this) He is born around 1936 and lived in Ashton (greater manchester/Stockport) at some point
Military information that i have: He was a Lance-Bombardier, Royal artillery 38/40 regt, Portsmouth Barracks, Munster( i am not sure what this means?), 5.F.P.O. 17 (again i have no clue what this stands for!
If anybody an help me make sense of this information please please get in touch!

| Hello Rose,
Your relative was a lance bombardier, one step on the rank ladder, in 38th and/or 40th Regiment Royal Artillery. He was a man who would have operated field guns in war. He was stationed in Muenster which is in Germany in Portsmouth Baracks. What you have as 5.f.p.o. actually stands for BFPO (British Forces Post Office 17 much like our postcodes now).
As to your relatives life, particular etc I'm unable to help - do you have his army number? It should have 8 digits and begin with a 2. | |

| I have no other personal information. However i now think his name may be John Kenyon.
Thank you so much for the information - this is a great help as i did not have a clue about all that! You have given me a new area to look into!
Thanks again!

| A couple of crossed wires there gents.
"38/40" is the short way of writing which an address. For example, 76 Bty of 24 Regt would be written as "76/24".
So the bloke we're looking for was in 40 Regt RA after 1958, that's when 38 Bty joined them.
(38 Regt RA was a signals training unit, next door to 31 Regt, at Kinmel Park camp, Rhyl in 1958).
That website you link us to has, in this instance, got it wrong John.

| I don't know about greater knowledge John, I'm still trying to figure out why I put the word "which" in the middle of my second paragraph !
Where did you go for your reunion at Kinmel ? Last time I was that way all I could see of the old camp site was factories. At least you didn't have far to travel, my last reunion was in Essex, WAY too far from Cheshire.
