| That in itself cold be very annoying, plus sound going up and down, the best fun for me however was as a tech I used to visit lots of our shops, we carried lots of spare remote controls on the car, one of my favourite tricks was to point it at the shop from some distance and turn up the sound, the consequences could be dramatic especially if there were several sets of the same make in the window, used to drive the shopgirls mad, they never did work out what was causing it

| Moving away from tellys and on to pranks, we had a Trimphone round about the same time as we had the TV with remote. I was very good at imitating the 'phones ring - again much to the kids annoyance. Now that I come to think about, it I was a right annoying git!! | |

| Yes well I'm afraid that becomes the favourite pastime for some of us, annoying the kids, then follows on to the Grand Kids

| Amstel was usual with us, don't think it was because of the taste so much as the reminders of when some visited the Brewery in Amsterdam

When I joined my Regt. in Hohne in 1980 every bar and Mess was open and serving from 12 till 14.30. Deutche Canteen was open all day ! (thank god) Them were the days........hic atb pinky HUSSAR

| Yes!! thank goodness for the Deutche Canteens, had one in Roy Barracks, Ratingen. I was well looked after by the MSO guys, they used to bring me a couple of the fine liversausage rolls, heavenly, and the same guys used to often come by when I was on duty at the Airport, they would visit the local canteen and bring me pork cutlet, peppered. Those were the days Les | |

12 marks to the pound! showing your age there gingerjim lol. I think it was about 4 marks to the pound when I first went to Germany in 1980, beer (On camp) was 1DM a can or bottle or pint and all spirits were 50pfg a shot. I think the most pointless rule I ever saw in Germany was the rule which stated that spirits could only be served in single measures, a rule that was universally ignored in every bar and mess throughout Germany.

| I think it was around DM 12:00 to the £ when I arrived in Apr 64. Permanent Passes for "Livers In" then, we had to book out of Camp before 2200hrs and book in by 0200hrs. Pay Parade was on a Wednesday, I think the reasoning behind that was by the weekend we would be skint. Happy Days. | |

My memory say's it was DM11.70 when I arrived in Jan 1967, you must have had a very friendly paymaster. Those were the days!. Edited to add it was DM5.25 when I left, that tells you something about who knew how to run a country's finances.
