| I had a wankle engine motor bike, the Suzuki RE5, I am sure it went with me to munster, but that might have been the GS750. i have since done quite a bit of wirk on them. they are a remarkably good, if over complicated engine. the carburation is particularly challenging. though if your not looking fo concourse, then the best bet is to replace the origional carb with one of the Norton SU's off their wankel. As for cars i had a couple of beetles, a 17m wagon and the only new car i ever owned, a peugeot 204. | |

| Hi Steve Jones, I had to wait until 1972 to buy the only new car I have ever owned - a Ford Cortina Mk III estate. Talking about bikes, I have a 1964 Triumph T90 with a 500cc engine fitted which I rebuilt from a donor bike some five years ago. Here's a picture of it : I was a serious rider during the late 1950's to early 1960's, owning a few Triumphs and finishing with a couple of Bonnevilles (1959 & a 1960 model) | |

| I am not sure what is happening, but i cant see any photos people have posted on this thread (apart from the green opal ?) I have always been a bike fan, had far to many to list here. my first though was a BSAC15 in 1968. Worked on M20's TRW500's and B40's while in the army and used to ride army trials as well. When i got out io worked for a while for a suzuki dealer in Wokingham, as we did MOT's i often got to road test anything exotic or different that came in. my last bikes were a pair of yamaha RZ350's (I think in UK they are LC350's) which i ghhad for club racing and i have a Honda FT400 waiting for me to rebuild when i get home. | |

| Hi Steve, I remember the Triumph TRW's. The R Sigs Display team used to have a few some years ago but are now down to Harris Triumph 750cc Bonnevilles which are getting a bit long in the tooth now. | |

| Sorry it's not quite what is meant I am sure, I bought this beauty (not this actual car) from a Cpl in Marchwood, but still owned it whilst in Germany, cost me the princely sum of £15 with some road tax still on it, most of the time using the starting handle Les | |

| Absolutely correct, very handy as the bus service at Marchwood did not match up very well with the train times, for some of the lads going up north it was a bit of a headache, answer, I used to take them to my nearest station, Hampton Court, from there it was just 20mins into Waterloo and they were happy, as I was with a little money towards petrol, I think it was a 1945/6 when I went to Germany I left it at my Mothers, did give it a top end overhaul during one leave, then unfortunately during the late 60s they had a flood, car ruined, sent for scrap | |

| In some ways I am glad it is just a memory, when I did the top overhaul (of course no head skim or torque wrench in those days) it gave me such a kick, if it had gone on too long I probably would not have wanted to part with it, I was totally self taught and used to think it was brilliant when things turned out right, unlike modern cars when most of the faults are diagnosed by computer | |

| When serving in BAOR fellas buying cars out there were divided into those that bought an old car for pennies and those that bought a new car hopefully with one year or more to go so that they could escape the UK purchase tax. Rootes Group did very well out there with their Hillman Minx models. | |
