| Watching a programme on one of our Freeview channels earlier, I was reminded of something that I've wondered about for quite a while. High ranking officers, even Himmler, wore a single chevron on their sleeves. Was it SS insignia ? What was its meaning and origin ? I bet there's somebody on here with the knowledge ! | |

| Brum, Officers and OR's wore the white chevron on their sleeves if they were registered members of the Nazi Party. Ritter | |

| Thanks Ritter Now you mention it, I did notice in the documentary some ORs, floundering along in the Russian mud, who also wore the chevron. | |

| I have always been curious at the number of NCO grades/ranks in the German Wermacht during WW2. So does the modern Bundeswehr have similar grade/rank structure as the old German army? | |

Yes, no one was allowed to be higher than Herr Schikelgruber who, as you know, was a full screw.

| Recently read that the wehrmacht and SS uniforms were designed (made?) by Hugo Boss.
I wonder who they got to design some UK forces uniforms ?
One of the chimps off the PG Tips advert ?

| I feel compelled to ask. All this Hi-Tech shite the Yanks have bolted to their helmets, is it of any use ? As I see it, without all that Rambo crap, we could've gone into locations that I could think of and despatched deserving people away to their Celtic Valhalla but the officers we had, at that time were more concerned with their careers than they were with avenging people whos names are now inscribed on the wall at our National Arboretum.
