Even though I loved all my time in the Army, and very happy wearing the Uniform, made me feel quite proud especially when going home and seeing a few of my old friends down at the Legion for a few pints, just made my day. Why is it then that I hate getting dressed up in a penguin suit with top hat, I have 6 boys and so far have had to dress up 3 times (Weddings) and this year my youngest (nearly 40) has decided to get married and have a Formal wedding (why can't they just have a simple wedding, saves a lot of money) so once again I have to dress up (funny thing is if I was asked to wear Uniform I would be quite happy) although I wish them all the best, am not looking forward to it

Thought I would pop up into the loft, open up the camphor wood chest (a memento of my Singapore days) and see what uniforms I've got. Mess kit with gold badges of rank and miniatures. Not bad but don't fit into it anymore. Also, a white mess kit jacket with press studs for rank badges. Again no fit. Still, I can dream can't I.

I seem to have spent most of my life in one sort of uniform or another.

School, the army, on the buses in Brum (briefly). ambulance service.

At least, now I'm retired I can wear what the hell I like ! Cool

Gordon,

You would have stood out and been different to the other 6 or 7 hundred other blokes if you'd have donned a sailors outfit.

Y'see, I like to wear the uniform of the Greek guards but I get terrible dirty looks on Remembrance Day parade when I do.

I think it's the pompoms on the shoes that does it. . . No

'58 Pattern belt.

Puttees, DMS boots.

Comfortable, sensible and popular with the chaps !

In 24 were wore Coveralls (Starched), Black Belts, Black Anklets, KFS and Tie - very smart but, completely non functional on the Gun Park..

There was also a uniform know as NI Dress, it might have been peculiar to the Gunners. Denim trousers, DPM Combat Jacket, Black Leather Gloves, Black Belt and Anklets.

Uniform of the day Seoul, Korea 1954 .. used to drive the Camp Sgt Major nuts .. combat jacket, jungle green pants (should have been combat pants, but they were too baggy), web gaiters scrubbed white with brasso water (should have been puttees), and ammo boots (should have been CWW boots, but you couldn't bull them).

Just goes to show that 'UNIFORM' is a complete misnomer as far as the British Army is concerned, no one dresses the same. Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation
