Units at Oxford Barracks

Just to say I was at Oxford Barracks from October 1955 to July 1957. My unit was the 4th Field Ambulance and I notice this is not mentioned on the list of units stationed there over the years. I can't say how long they had been there or how long they stayed after 1957. The KRRC followed by the Royal Hampshires were the infantry regiments I recall.

I'm sure this will be of interest to Paul and anyone compiling a history of various units. I too find it interesting. Pushing 73 now it all seems a long time ago and, at the moment , I'm just looking through some old photos of my time in Munster as I'm taking a trip to the Xmas Market there on Sunday. I laughed when I saw that 4th Field Ambulance had been stationed in Hong Kong. I remeber at the end of basic training we were all given a choice of where we would like to be posted. Hong kong and Washington DC were the favourites. We all ended up in Germany. Nevertheless, I did enjoy it there.

HI just like to say my father cpl jack willmer servered with 4th field abulance rct at oxford barracks from 66 to 69 i,ll have to look for his photos and see if i can find the 1s of oxford bks
i remember that near the 30 mtr range was two wired off areas containing mines and those
anti-tank wepons fire from rifles

I was stationed there in 1968/69 with 31 Field Amblulance

It was close to and in the 5 Field Ambulance Regimental lines that the in Germany series of 'Soldier Soldier' was filmed.

Dear All

I am writing to you regarding the former Wehrmacht Kaserne, Roxelerstr, Gievenbeck, now Oxford Barracks Münster, which was used as a Flakartillerie-Kaserne (anti-aircraft artillery) for the Luftwaffe and as Stabsquartier (headquarters) for the Ersatzstab (replacement Unit) of the VI. Armeekorps.

My request is concerned with a specific wall painting, which was placed most probably in the officers' mess south of the barracks on the other side of Roxelerstr or the mess hall inside the barracks.

I would like to find out, if the wall painting (which shows a scene from Goethe's Faust/Vor dem Tor/Soldaten: "Burgen mit hohen Zinnen") is still to be seen in the barracks and was not overpainted after the war.

I would be very grateful, if you could help me with my request.
