In 1947 took the first Allied cross-country place in Hannover/Germany on the 12 april 1947. (The Allied championships) Zatopek won the race, the Frenchman LaHoucine was second and the Belgian athlete Wauters Frans was Third. The British Army organised this event (1st Britisch Corps). Nine Countries were present, GB, USA, F, B, NL, Tjecho-Slowakia,Norway, Luxemburg and Danmark.
I would like to know the complete results of this race and the names of the participants from each country.
Could you eventually give me addresses of people who could help me please.
Kind Regards
Jos van Impe Belgium

Welcome sponsz

HQ 1st (British) Corps District disbanded 1 Jul 47 their historical records at Kew http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk finished at the end of Mar 47, therefore your request is very difficult to reply to the information you require, have looked at the records for 5th Infantry Division who were responsible for Hannover at this time but I am afraid no records of this event

Best of luck with your research

Suggest that the (Royal since 2010) Army Physical Training Corps would have been knee deep in staging and running the Cross Country Event at Hannover - try here:

Here wat Michal Procházka wrote me about the Czech runners in Hannover:
In the end, it inspired me to write a historical article about those five Czech runners for our “Atletika” magazine. Because there is great story behind: Three of those five (Kořán, Zabloudil, Vomáčka) emigrate from Czechoslovakia after communists took force in 1948 – all ended in USA. Ladislav Kořán came back to family and his business with electronic music instruments (company Resonet) but was terribly arrested for 18 (!) years, had to work in Jáchymov uranium mines … In 1968 Kořán fled again, worked with Cousteau in the USA, was CEO at surf complex at Saipan isle in Pacific, registered some 2,500 patents … Really amazing. Kořán and Roudný died in 2015, when they were both 90+!
Michal
P.S. Unfortunately we did not find anyone with the results …

This not what you are looking for!  However, it may be of interest?  First Allied Cross-Country. Scotland?

There is a French and a Belgium name mentioned!

You will have to play around until you find the correct video.  The correct video starts with an Aeroplane in Berlin.

Good Luck!

The cross-country in Ayr Schotland on 30 march 1946 wasn't an allied (Army) competition.
It was the first competition after World War II between 6 countries , Engeland, Belgium, France, Wales,Schotland and Ireland. The first time this competition was hold in 1898 (only Engeland and France) In 1923 Belgium participated ad this competition for the first time.
