| Hi there, can anyone help me with this email please:
Hello I'm from Lemgo, but now live in Rheinlandpfalz and I am trying to find out which unit(s) were based at Lemgo from 1950 until 1955.
Also, what was/is the ASSU and who did it belong too?
Thank you,
D.

| ASSU - Air Support Signal Unit After 1945 1 ASSU 244 Signal squadron, correct me if I am wrong, was based at Lemgo, 2 ASSU in the Middle East, 3 ASSU in the Far East, 4 ASSU in the UK. I am not aware of any other ASSU Signal Squadrons at Lemgo during 1950-55. Maybe someone else knows. There may have been an Air Formation Signal unit based at Lemgo as well? I think Stornoway Barracks has been converted into a housing area. | |

| I was stationed at Stornoway Barracks, 1951-1953 4th Field Survey Squadron, Royal Engineers. We used one block. Royal signals units were also there, in other block(s). I gather this unit moved later - 1954 ? Look on Google for 4th...... for more information. George Clevedon | |

| I was there from 75-77 with 2LI as a single living in buckshee, we moved from accommodation blocks opposite Sp Offices to the Rattle accommodation under the Gym whilst block refurbishment went on, a few of us lads played football for Jimmy's Bar, also the Queens Jubilee Parade in Sennelager and the sports day on the Lemgo sportsfield, plenty of fond memories.

| I was based there with 2LI B Coy 76-77. Bills bar was just outside the main gate and there was a bakery across the road where we bought food on weekends. Jonny Renoyds married the daughter of the owner who owned Bills Bar. I wonder if it is still there? |

| I live near Lemgo. I knew John Reynolds very well. He married bill's daughter Rita. Sadly Bill and an Anna died many years ago and the bar closed. John and Rita split up and both are now back in the UK. I believe Rita's son Danny is still living in the Lemgo area. Other LI guys that I know and see who are still living in Lemgo are Alan Toomer, Willy Wilmot and Pete Bartlett. | |

| Hey Light Inf, We took over from you in '78 and our company (charlie) moved straight in under the gym. We were still there when I transferred out to the RAC in March '79

Ursula I don't think it would have been the SCLI in those years, they became the 1st Light Infantry (1 LI) in 1965, and they did serve in Lemgo in the 1970's (1970 to 1974 I believe). Have you tried the Regimental Association for any details? You could try:- http://www.lightinfantryassociation.co.uk/index.htmlor http://www.winchestermilitarymuseums.co.uk/LI.html (this one might not be too helpful though) Where have you already tried finding details? Paul. | |

| ps I am pretty sure that it was 2 LI. I was posted in 1971 to 1LI and then 2 LI took over, but over the years I cannot recall exactly which Bn took over from which. |

| I always remember a dear old German gentleman who used to work at the POL Point in Stornoway. Herr Arsnot,I think his name was. He would insist in sharing his lunch with a couple of us REME lads. He used to carry around a folded picture of Hitler, and when opened out it transformed into a lovely pig. |
