Hi, can any one help me find a Sig Brown he was a DTG in 1sqn from 75-79, i left in 79 for 3adsr in soest so he may have been there a little longer. The last i heard he was married to a local girl,Bob or Robert as he was known came from Queensbury,West Yorkshire.I have photo,s of him but im not sure how to get them on this web site. regards Ski

My dad, John Young, was in the Royal School of Signals and we were stationed in Lippstadt in about 1972 I think. We lived at 24 (I think) Lessingstrasse. I'd like to go back and visit our street and house and the camp. Is it possible to do that nowadays?

Hi Kyla and welcome to the site. As Steve says Churchill Barracks has now been redesignated Wohnpark Sud and the buildings have been converted to Social Housing, all the ancillary buildings, that is, garages, gun sheds, POL point etc have been removed and replaced by private housing. Lessingstrasse is still standing and is also private housing. Travel to Lippstadt is relatively simple, with regular flights to Hannover or Lippstadt/Paderborn airports. If you click on my YouTube link above you can get an idea of what the Barracks look like now.

Thanks. I'm glad it's still there, I'll certainly have a look when I'm next in Germany. I don't remember anything about the camp, just Lessingstrasse where we lived, our garden and the playground. I've looked at it on You tube and it looks really very nice, much prettier than Blandford Camp where we moved after.

I was about six or seven. My mum had a friend opposite who was Asian called Nina. We would get the bus to school and I sometimes sat with her son.

Other places I know the names of are Bockenforde and Mona See. I remember a visit to Lippstadt park because my youngest brother, Nick, fell in the river and my dad had to jump in and fish him out. Actually I have tons of memories from that period.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 5 years in Lippstadt, best posting ever.
