| hi all, just looking through the content here, some good memories coming out. Have a few of my own whilst serving with 4 Regt AAC in Detmold. Firstly can,t believe my block now has a Lidls Supermarket on it!!!!. Can anyone remember the BBC (Blue Beret Club) in the loft of the singlies block? Had some fun in there, in fact it was after one night in there and ONE bottle of beer (thurs 12th) that on the morning of the 13th (FRIDAY) I was warned for orders and then sent to the CO,s, where I was charged with stateing the false drinking on duty and the lesser charge of urinating in a fire apppliance was dropped. I got 14 days detention in the 4/7 gaurd room for that. For all of those that know about it i have only recently found the cpl that escorted me to Jail and very valiently stuck up for me at the time of me getting charged. He has since told me that the charges "went too far" and that it was basically abit of a wind up etc etc that went too far and really i shouldnt of got jailed. Another occasion was when we Swapped our number 2 shirts for the new style of KF shirts. We had to drive to the PRI shop using landies from the sqn lines, anyway asked permission to get me new shirts got it from the MT cpl, had to wait until it got back from one of the other A/TPRS getting his shirts. Got my shirts and got back to the MT where I was warned for orders and charged for get this "using a military vehicle for personal use" . Ever get the feeling your face doesnt fit sometimes HAHA. Apart from a charge sheet the length of my arm I had some good times in Detmold and am shocked to see the state of Hobart barracks now. What I would dearly love to do is get hold of my military records and see about having some of them charges re-looked at and sorted out because 99% of them are made up trash. Anyone thought of doing the same or heard of anyone doing similar. would like to know. If anything to stick two fingers up at Danny Walker (SSM) oh and the T**T of a cpl who charged me for cross bulking some avtur into a VOR bowser even though I told him it was VOR. see what I mean about shite charges. | |

Iam sure that when that bar was built it was in the basement? I remember working on it in 1968.

| Judging by the replies I have I take it I was the only naughty boy in the whole of BAOR, now that I find so very difficult to believe!!!!. Anyway to answer some of the questions, the BBC was in the roof of our block, which was situated at the other end of the camp from the main guardroom, (ie the furthest from Felix,s bar) as you look at the main square with the cookhouse and NAAFI behind you, we occupied the block to the right of the square, right of us was the RMPs then right of them was the med centre, and the other gate leading to the pads patch. | |

| hello sec 69,we have all been bad boys to some degree or other, but you will probably notice that this site does not seem like the place to wash ALL our dirty linen,as for your discripion of your accomodation that used to be 9 regt block, standing where you are 4 regt were on the left in my time 79/82,dave. | |

| dandc, maybe we could start a new topic in the forum of what was the most stupid/outrageous thing members were charged with whilst serving in BAOR, I think it might make for some interesting and side splitting reading, I know some of my charges would. I suppose the chief,s in charge (geddit) had to do something to justify there appointments. What do other members think of this idea. | |

Whilst at 71a/c wksp I was charged with " having a dirty and untidy bedspace" all told there was 48 of us charged that day, [ it was the day we were all off on a major ex] I didn't have time to check it out before we left but when we got back it was to find that the problem with my bedspace was in fact a crack in the ceiling plaster which 'appeared 'to be a cobweb! Just for interest, when we were charged we were marched in 4 at a time! the AAC? you can keep it!

| Ah lads, how some of you must have suffered in your service days. Now when I joined up you got CB(confined to barracks)commonly known as "jankers".And after one dose of jankers you did'nt come back for a second dose!Funny thing, had a lot to do with the old Nat Service boys, always ticking and keeping their "de-mob" calender up to date, but funnily, when their time came to leave the Regiment, most of them would come to you and say, despite all,how they had enjoyed their time with us,and how much good it had done them.Maybe thats whats missing today? -------- Don | |

| One of my most trumped up charges was when my sister was babysitting for a german family in Frankfurt, I asked to go and visit her, was given permission to do so as long as I had no duties, which I didnt, In fact the SSM encouraged me to visit as in his words it kept up family ties, so off I went, came back after the weekend all ok. A few more visits went off all ok, then one monday morning I was warned for orders for going outside of BAOR areas with out permission. Now bearing in mind that I had asked permission to go to frankfurt on every visit and it was granted, so where the hell did they get off on charging me when I got back from this one visit. Beggars belief sometimes haha. | |

| there was one sure fire way to deal with the bully type of N C O [and there was plenty of them],when in front of the O C,and he gave you the choice accept my award or be tried by court martial, they soon backed down when you asked for a court martial,[and yes it is from experience,a sad episode for the N C O concerned],dave. | |

| AAHHAAA now that is one avenue that I did try to go down on one of other numerous charges ( I really was a good soldier just not a barrack room soldier). My Uncle (ex RAF flt eng, Queens flight etc etc) told me he done that once and all charges were dropped against him, so there i was belt and beret removed on the carpet and i went for it, only one problem being only 17 at the time (and still I got posted to BAOR before my 18th) I kind of bottled it after I said it,. They gave me 24hrs to think about what I was doing, and i suspect to get the gears of justice in motion. To be honest I didnt really have a clue what i might be getting myself into so I accepted the OC,s award and ended up with if memory serves me right 14 days ROP,s | |
