Einmal Currywurst mit Pommes bitte!

I too was introduced to potato salad in Germany and thought it was the bees knees untill my wife made some as part of a buffet lunch for a family gathering..
The secret is to use the proper potatoes and make your own mayo which must be seasoned properly..

Additions like a little finley chopped apple and onion and a little cayen pepper make a mouth wattering dish..Can be eaten with anything, as my gut will testify

A touch of dry mustard also if I remember correctly, and a good quality Bockwurst (which having a large German population in Wpg. makes it possible) and quality rye bread.

You mentioning the size of the German population in Wpg reminds me that there was a large Canadian/German club there which we frequently visited when in Wpg for the weekend from Shilo. once inside you could have been in a beerhall in Germany complete with oompha band, great beer,food and girls - happy days(nights).

That would probably be the Gasthaus On the Lake in Peachland which is only about 10 miles south of Kelowna. They serve, among other things, Warsteiner and Isenbeck beer and some of the best German food around. If only I could convince them to serve HOT mustard with the bratwurst.

Or maybe you're talking about the Woodfire Bakerei on Highway 97 in Kelowna. Good stuff there too.

That's the one. The gent who started it up in the early 90s was quite a showman. All of a sudden as he was dishing up plates of food he would let out a high decibel yodel. The kids run it now so it's a lot more sedate but they still wear their German heritage on their sleeves.

It was an excellent place, we went there with friends who live on the hill on the other side of the bridge, have they finished rebuilding it yet?

I remember some really great German dishes in Medicine Hat. Yum yum

We have the fortunate luck to have a GENUINE GERMAN BAKERY here in Wpg. He originally applied to have his bakery here in our neighbour hood (many Germans in North Kildonan) but his application was refused by some ignorant civil crud. So he went off and set up on the south side of the city. He makes all from scratch, has genuine Wasser Brochen. All the staff are fluent in German. It's not unusual to see some little old oma's coming in on the arm of son or daughter getting their week end bake goods. They also serve a wonderful light lunch. If you get here, guarantee I'll direct you there.

After I remustered to the cook trade, baking was the part I enjoyed best. I would have enjoyed apprenticing under some one like that German baker.

oooh, sounds good hardrations, I'd love some proper brotchen, the cook yourself ones here are just not the same.

As I sit here, I smell french fries and curry wurst being prepared. Achh man!!!!

Yes Brum very chuffed the locals are friendly and we have settle in well dispite the cold weather the local bratties currywurst schnitzel brotchen (sorry Jim) all very good and been able to find a decent shoulder of local lamb as good as British lamb something we could not find in Iserlohn

makes me remember how we used to buy lamb joints for some German friends in Detmold, they just couldn't get hold of lamb for anythin price.

Since arriving in the north of Germany have found a different sort of currywurst



Not a chopped up bratwurst a specially made wurst cooked in oil not in the pan or on a grill just missing the sprinkle of curry powder on top
