Think the two characters were Tip and Tap? Missed the 1974 World Cup in Germany as I was back in Catterick by then. However I was over there during the 1970 World Cup (Mexico, 2-0 up against Germany and lost it). Certainly stopped us from jibing the Germans with the chant "2 World Wars and a World Cup".

| Unashamedly copied from a facebook friend whose son is out there.
Radio 5 live were discussing why England are so poor. Apparently they are missing their loved ones and bored with 5 * luxury hotel life!!!! How about they speak to the brave girls and boys in Afghanistan. Living in tents, in shite, for months and under the constant threat of death.
Amen to that. | |

Amen to that. Could not agree more. After the Algeria match Wayne Rooney couldn't understand why he was being boo-ed by people who'd saved up for years, used up their holiday entitlement and travelled all the way to South Africa to support the England team. Will these overpaid, molly-coddled people ever be able to understand the real world? Mike

| I would think that was what Phil's original intention was! along with the Web Site....
and that is what it mainly is! I for one visit it to get away from modern life, to many forums do that already. _________________ Sua Tela Tonanti

| No I mean the 'World Cup' is not really relivent to the forum heading, other than the first post. But I'll lose no sleep over it.
Anyway - I've merged the two threads to minimise its impact! _________________ Sua Tela Tonanti

Took me a minute or two there Brum. Must be old age. Sorry Mike, never intended to cause WW3. Thought it was relevant this being a forces/ex forces site even if it is supposed to concentrate on BAOR. I also like to try and bring in new topics so at least there is some interest. Would hate to see it wither and die because everything has been covered.

| OK I over-reacted last night as I was tired. I merged the two threads this morning becouse they were the same subject matter, and its easy for a thread to get side tracked when split between two locations.
Yes I like the idea of new subjects for discussion. _________________ Sua Tela Tonanti

| We lived in a brand-new flat in Munster/Coerde in '66. You didn't have the money-raking football hysteria then so we weren't really taking much notice of the World Cup. I do remember though that the streets were deserted after England won. Didn't a German get so fed up with his wife nagging him about the football that he threw her out of the window? | |

Perhaps another topic board could be added just to talk about anything not BAOR related? Chit chat for example. I wouldn't want the site watered down but sometimes it's just good to talk. P.S. Possibility of a "plum" tie with Germany after tonights game!

| I've seen photographs of idiots burning our flag because the football team lost. Sickens me the way football and politicians highjack the English national flag and turn it into something it isn't.
Burn your replica shirts, don't go to the matches, stop buying jingoistic papers, cancel your sky but leave our flags alone.
No offence to the Scots, Welsh and Irish. I would be just as riled if they did the same.
