| I'm no football fan, but I was amazed that many of my mates truly believed England were going to win. sad really, now these same mates truly believe we're going to win the Euro cup. Sad really, and it's not as if they are thick either, well mostly not | |

| Some MP's are demanding an enquiry into why we did so badly at the world cup. Country is in crisis, our lads getting battered in hot places and they are worried about this nonsense. You couldn't make it up! | |

Obviously seen as more of a vote winner than fixing Labour's rape of the economy and preventing British lads and lasses getting killed. Now where's that expense form?

Very funny, but I note from the URL in the bottom right hand corner that it is yet another dig from our Northern Celtic Bretheren. Mike

Oops! Sorry! Where would we be without political correctness? (in a democratic society perhaps?) I suppose it's a bit like the story told to me donkey's years ago. The Air Ministry sent an official complaint to the Admiralty stating that sailors were referring to airmen as Crabs or Crabfat. Of course this was not to be tolerated so the Admiralty acted swiftly in sending out the following signal: "To all HM Ships and Shore Establishments. In future Crabs are to be referred to as the Royal Air Force"

We always called them crab air as well, never heard crabfat though. I have some ex-Navy mates and Crabfat is a peculiarly RN expression. Something to do with the colour of said fat and the RAF uniform. But in the Army, yes; Crabs, Crab Air or White-knuckle Airways. Mike

| Just to keep up with the wild fluctuations generated by the subject of the World cup.......When we were in Fort George in Derry, we had to live on HMS Rame Head, a sort of floating workshops, with a RN crewe for a while. To me "The Andrew" was the name for the Senior Service and one on his own was a "Matelot". They called us "Gizzits", instead of the usual "Pongos" because every time we saw something interesting on the ship worth cadging we always said "Gizzit"!

| The Navy is stiff with it's own words for things Jim, like "The Oggin" (The Sea), "Gash", (rubbish) and "Uckers", (an incomprehensible game, designed to baffle Pongos.) "The Andrew" was in common usage way back when I was a kid.
