| Which Bks is this? The only pool in Herford that I know of was/is in Harewood Bks, immediately on the left as you come in the main gate, and that doesn't look like it. I spent quite a lot of time as a kid in the mid '50s swimming (well floating on an old inner-tube) there. | |

No idea where the pool is,but had the pleasure of serving with Bob Hanks twice. First time in Wentworth Barracks, Herford, with 4 Division Provost Unit, circa 1971-1972. Second time 1973-1974 with 1 Regt RMP in Belfast. A true Gentleman.

I am only guessing it was Herford from the dates and someone telling me this looks like Harewood Barracks Pool however you have now put a question mark on that the plot thickens !

| I was stationed in Gremmendorf Kaserne (York Barracks) from 1952 - 1954, never saw a swimming pool there .. but the Brigade HQ (20 Armd) had a great Cpls Mess, I know that fort sure as I was the prime architect in getting it, possibly the best Cpls Club I ever saw.

| I was based down the road on the Loddenheide complex in the early 70s but used to visit York Barracks frequently. Like Ciphers I cannot remember an open air swimming pool of the static water tank variety to be found all over BAOR
There is another contributor to this site who was based in York Barracks in the early/mid 70s I have sent him a PM hopefully he might add another authoritive commment on the photo
