| Well old Basil at the moment is stranded in a horse paddock, with no brakes and no movement. The brakes all bled out through a hole in the line right below the drivers seat, so I have to find the break and fix that. As well as that it appears that he may be stuck between gears as he will not go anywhere, kinda like trying to take off with the hand brake on He does start really well now, but can't keep him running long as it makes the flywheel overheat. For all of you that had to work on these beasts you have my sympathy as there issweet F A room in there anywhere Oh well...will keep at it and get him running sweetly, what else can go wrong | |

| Brilliant picture of the gearbox. boy do i remeber them things. i remeber that when you were setting the band tension you had to "pump" each gear about a million times to set them. not uncommon problem, sticking in one gear and then selecting another. | |

| Steve is correct!
If you have not been carrying out 'Drivers First Parade' checks ie. 'Carrying out pumping up gearbox in each gear' then problems WILL occur! (Sargn't Major, place this driver on a Charge Report 252!)
Of course you personally have not forgotten, because you have not had it 5 mins! Don't know how the Fox was maintained prior!
The manual you need is a manual called EMER **** (sorry can't remember the letter and 3 digit No. This inst book lists Allison gearbox adjustment of Brake Bands.
Don't be lead into buying any ex military Manuals/Bookbooks listing Fox repairs in titel etc as they do not normally cover gearbox adjustments.
OK, if seller can sustantiate adjustments AND instructions on manufacture of adjusting tools (can be reproduced/made locally) then maybe they have copied EMER ****.
If you surf the web you will eventually find someone selling photo copies. I did once have a copy I found on the net. Unfortunately it has long since disappeared from my PC!
I have up to now not found again the manual dispite finding lots of sellers of military manuals.
Please note! I have not worked on the Allison gearbox, so I cant advise you on the adjustments but I am are aware of the problems they caused.
PS. Have you had a 'false neutral' yet? You will know it, as your left knee will hit you in the chin!
Good luck
Alan Ex REME Vehicle Mechanic
PS. I would take a bet the adjustment procedures are the same for the Ferret, Saracen and Saracen Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFV).

| Nope towed the beast out of the field last night with the aid of a large 4x4 tractor ( nearly got him out with my land rover though! ) So there is nothing wrong in that department, back to the gearbox and fifth gear, gotta make up the box tool and then I can get him back on the road. WHY?? OH WHY?? I ask you did you make such great armour but curse them with complicated and hard to get and work on mechcanicals | |

| another update! Looking at the photos and comparing with the specs that Richard gave me, fifth gear is well and truly out of adjustment and I would think that the gearbox and associated linkages would need adjusting back to base settings. Quite a task if you haven't done them before. Should be back on the road soon | |
