| Hi, I will use RAL 6003! Just another question: Are the following CCG beetle from the British Army? Any idea? | |

| Not the Army as such - The Control Commission for Germany (British Element) was as its full title surgests, the British element of the Allied [civlion] Control Authority (later Council) in (West) Germany
Relations between the Western Allies (especially the United States and the United Kingdom) and the Soviet Union quickly deteriorated, and so did their cooperation in the administration of occupied Germany. Within each zone each power ran its own administration, such as the
Gouvernement Militaire de la Zone Française d'Occupation en Allemagne (GMZFO) in Karlsruhe,
the Советская военная администрация в Германии (СВАГ); Sovetskaia Voennaia Administratsia v Germanii (SVAG) in East Berlin,
the Control Commission for Germany - British Element (CCG/BE) in Bad Oeynhausen,
the Office of Military Government, United States (OMGUS) in West Berlin and Frankfurt upon Main.
They did however receive a number of staff/utility cars including captured vehicles which were all regeistered with CCG numbers, later they received new VW's via British Vehicle Depots. _________________ Sua Tela Tonanti

| Hi. Really interesting. I had a 52 BAoR car a few years ago. I now have a '49 beetle that looks to be a border patrol car. Originally grey from the factory but then painted Ral6012 black green. Fitted with searchlights and sirens. | |

| A very old thread but have discovered in the Historical Records for 15 Vehicle Company RAOC mixed in with G Branch 2 Infantry Division for 1947
Detachment 15 Vehicle Company was based at the Wolfsburg Motor Works and were responsible for the issue of new Beetles
BTW 15 Vehicle Company RAOC as at 31 Dec 47 had 22 Officers and 626 other ranks in 6 locations!

| My father was O/C the 23rd Advanced Base Workshop after the war for a short period and I remember him telling me that he tuned up one of these Beetles with the help of some ex-Mercedes pre-war motor racing mechanics and drove it up and down the autobahn at 120mph. There may be a degree of exaggeration possibly or his memory was fading perhaps. Just posted for more info under Hardyharry on this site. He started off in the army as a fitter-mechanic in 1938 and ended up Lt Colonel by the time he left the army in 1948. | |

| Had a third part ownership of a 1949 VW Beetle back in the late 60s when serving in Verden-Aller, the cable brakes were terrible and needed to be adjusted weekly, would not have wanted to do 120 mph! | |

| I had a brake cable model as well.
Bas***d! They froze up in the winter of 1968!
No fuel gauge fitted to my model! Fuel quantity was checked by lifting the bonnet, then take thefuel cap off, then look inside.
One plus point was the foot operated Main/Reserve lever near the gas peddle. Not easy when one is doing 50 on the Autobahn! | |
