Early 50's VW vehicle anecdotes please.

I've has such a great response form this forum in trying to trace history and locations for there early Volkswagen beetles produced for the BAoR. There seem to be about a dozen 50-52 split rear window cars out there and a few 53-57 oval window too. I would like to collect anecdotes from anyone there at the time or with family members who were. They seem according to Volkswagens records department to have been sent to 17 Vehicle Company (17VB) and 151 Company (151coy). But must have been in se all over the British sector.
So please, feel free to post any information here, no mater how small. it all helps to build a picture.

Going to Army Caravan Quarters in a BAOR VW Beetle. Those were the days!

At least one of those caravans was still in use on Bad Lippspringe airfield in 2012 - field office.

when we  used to have snow  . . .

inside Normandy Barracks Sennelager - this building was used by the Wehrmacht
to service (Tiger /Panther) tank turrets, in the picture it was operated by the
Church Army as a tea stop and newspaper sales point - immediately North of
and opposite the NAAFI canteen/bar/shop.  
The building was latterly used as a Welfare hub/Families Centre - although this use has now ceased.
The soldier's NAAFI is still where it always was - it had been the Soldiers' Home and Gift Shop during Wehrmacht days, the US Army liberated most of the stock Easter 1945.

CVWW (Salvation Army (aka Red Fred's), Church Army, Toc H) in spite of being specifically named in  the NATO SOFA Protocol Supplement, outlets all met a slow demise.

From an american source - still a likeable Beetle:

I bought my first car , an old VW Beetle, for $250 in 1963.   I ran out of gas 75 miles
from my house way out in the boonies, got out of my car and waved at passing motorists
for help.  One fellow stopped and asked me what the problem was and I said I was
out of gas.  He asked me if I turned on the RESERVE GAS TANK HANDLE.  I had never
heard of that, and he reached under my dash board and he turned a metal handle.
I now had an extra two gallons of gas. I have never run out of gas again."

It must have been 1957 or 58 when a transport VW driven by a Polish? chap in black uniform collected myself and mother to take me to Munster BMH for wisdom? tooth extract. 
 Awful seats, quite unlike father's comfy Oldsmobile,  arrived to be duly gassed out then back home in a zoned-out condition which made the seats very  different and delightful. 
  It was one of my first full memories and unfortunately began a lifelong association with opioids as I was back a week later to be pumped full of morphine on a quite regular basis.
 One other memory of that day was the driver showing my father around the air-cooled VW engine taught me the difference in sound of air-cooled four strokes water-cooled four-strokes, two-strokes and also diesel engines. I remember being very proud of that.
 Other memories: rabbits everywhere at dusk, pheasants, refugee camps, and chocolate milk from the Canadian Maple Leaf Services at Fort Victoria, Werl.
