Looking for Mick Mcmahon we served in the signals 1 Armoured Div HQ Sig Regt Verden BFPO32 1977-1980 ish We were both in Bravo Troop 3 Sqn and worked out of the MT Garages next to the Parade Square, we lost contact after he left the army and verden in 1980 ish, last i heard of him he moved to London living near the Edgeware Rd and im sure he was still with Georie Riddle who was also at verden with us.
And Me... Alan Wharton from Redcar Cleveland my time at verden i was married to Jane who was from Camberley Surrey we got married at the Royal Military Accadamy Sandhust as i was posted there after Catterick, i went to verden with a MK1 Escort powder blue with 2 narrow strips over the bonnet roof and boot ! those were the days eh lol, i went home on leave came back to find my escort had been towed off the parade square and scrapped ! and nobody to this day knew where it went to ! mmmm. then i got my 1st Ford Cortina MK2 of many, last car i had there was i bought a Ford Escort Mexico MK1 bright Yellow it was from a sgt on the base, i painted it black and put side exhaust on it and jacked the rear suspension up as we did in the 70's. Apart from working in the MT Garage i used to do SDS on the top floor of the building that had the gate gauard room and the upstairs armoury, jeez the noise of those teleprinters in the dead of nite and all the rumours of the hauntings from old german soldiers wandering around ! no wonder we didnt sleep much lol. Anoth lad we knew well was Norrie Swainson i remember he bought and new when it 1st came out VW MK1 Golf he reckoned it was quicker than my Mexico NOT hahahaha, Norrie was big tall guy and married a local german girl.

You have triggered some memories in me... ...I thought the teleprinters were in the Comcen, near to HQ 1 Div, where I worked. Perhaps there were others. I left in December 1976, bound for 12 Coy in NI. Thus, I missed you by a few days, I suspect.
If you knew Harry Leadbeatter, also HQ 1 Div, you should know that he died recently. He married and settled in the area. When I was there, Maj Austin and CSM Bates ran 3 Squadron (where we bunked), line troop still had a bar, and 651 Sqn AAC were on site.
Also, if you use Google Earth to do an overpass, you'll find the 1 Div Signal Regt buildings are there, but HQ 1 (Br) Armd Div has been erased, permanently. So I won't be able to visit and reminisce about the past, though 3 Sqn's block is still there, and I know exactly which window was mine.

Hi, I was B troop 3 sqd. (elephant troop) 73 To 77 so maybe just missed you. Tony Gaynor was a big pal of mine. I was DTG working comcen at Sheila Bks and exercise. Do not remember teleprinters in Hq block Caithness Bks where I lived though. Arrived as a 18 year old sig and left as a full screw. Re your oppo. Have you tried the the 1 Div Sigs Facebook page? I have located quite a few old b troop mates there. Chris Noccetti. John Pel, Bagley, etc. Give it a try. I have quite a few pics also of that time if you are interested. I was better known as N icky Carter back then. Cheers..
