I was in Nienburg also with 21 but it was a time after your dates. Was also in Munsterlager from 88/89 till 32 moved to Hohne. Had some of the best times in my career in Munsterlager. Anyone know whats left at Munsterlager now ?
And what about Nienburg ? They had big plans for Nienburg when 21 left there but i heard that not much actually happened.
Nienburg was also a good posting for me and stayed with 21 there till they moved to Osnabruck and now Osnabruck is gone. Maybe its me as i also stayed with 21 and did the move back to Ripon.
Probably a good thing i'm out now as they wouldn't be able to move 21 completly much more i'd hope

I also served with 21, I was there from 81 - 84/5 with RHQ Troop, from what I could see from some aerial photos I found a few months ago all the blocks except 2 have gone, the gate house is still there and the parade square, but the rest has been flattened, very sad really coz Assaye Barracks was a good place, but progress rules, so they say

It would be nice to hear from anyone from 3 troop MT at that time as I was MT NCO prior to being posted to HQ 12 Brigade as Commanders driver.

I just thought I would give an update on the old Barracks site as I now live in Nienburg. 1 and 7 Squadron blocks are still standing are now the local police station.? Well the ones on Berliner Ring anyway. 4 Squadron and 45 Squadron Blocks had to make way for the hospital which now stands there.
The old singleees NAAFI was derelict for years but last year 2021 it was refurbished it was completely refurbished and is now flat units.
A lot has changed since I was first posted to Nienburg in 1979- 82 but I now call it home and still meet up with a few ex forces guys but we are slowly getting fewer.

I need some help, below is the building that housed HQ 30 Corps District in Nienburg from Jun 45 to Apr 46 then moved to Lüneburg, it would help my research if you could advise the address and purpose of this building today, hopefully it still exists
Thanks in anticipation

I am afraid this building is unknown to me and I have lived here as a civvie for 22 years. Do you know where it was located? It seems a bit Grand for Nienburg

Come to think of it, it looks a bit like the old SSVC cinema in Verden. Could that be?

Not SSVC Cinema Verden Stu, that was a flat roof building in the corner of the sports field in the late 60s, the image is from a booklet all about 30 Corps post VE Day, in documentation only have four figure grid references, however have a six figure for HQRE pointing at Königsberger or Steittner Strasse, hopefully you can help.

I believe it was the 30 Corps post VE, as you mentioned.(Photos from Imperial War Museum).
Viewed through the narrow door opening in the photo to the plinth outside. The 'Prancing Black Boar' was taken to UK.
Do my remarks match the previous photo of the building? Of course the Boar had probaly been removed already to UK . Plinth and all!

Mission accomplished this building is no longer there StuW and was the Amtssparkasse on Goetheplatz opening in 1921, requisitioned by the British in Jun 45, when HQ 30 Corps moved to Lüneburg Apr 46, HQ 51 (Highland) Infantry Division moved in until disbandment Jun 46, replaced at sometime and is now the Main HQ for Sparkasse in Nienburg

Subject: Erika Könemann 3/9/2023, 22:20
Hello, I am currently documenting the life of my aunt Erika Könemann. In the 1960s she worked as a secretary in the Assaye Barracks in Nienburg. Maybe someone who met Erika Könemann in Nienburg can be found this way. And maybe someone knows something about her fiancé. As far as I know, his name was Adam Hilling.
