| This is the Veterans Lapel Badge, I have had mine for a couple of years now. There is a staggered issue because of the demand, it depends when you served .. Len | |

| There was no real criteria applied by Government when approving the issue of Veterans Badge. Anyone who served are entitled to it, including those wasters who got kicked out dishonourably. I do not wear one for this reason, petty I hear some say. Yeah perhaps but that's my stand. | |

| Lost mine because it ripped through my leather coat. Got another one as a replacement but you have to pay if you lose that one. Keep it in the drawer now so it is pointless having one I suppose? Does annoy me that these things can be bought but if I see anyone wearing one and am suspicious, I would soon be able to tell if they are waffling as would most of us. Haven't found one yet but come across a few who were allegedly on the balconey. I'm surprised it didn't collapse under the weight of all the SAS who were supposed to have been on it! | |

| I haven't come across the veterans badges oldtimer mentions yet but I notice you can buy medals for all sorts of epic actions. There's the National Service medal, one for BAOR, Getting to the Front of the NAAFI Queue Three Times on the Trot at Kinmel Park Camp, Rhyl medal. You name it they'll produce it and charge you forty quid for the thing. They soon jumped on that tosser in Coventry last year, wearing a SAS beret and medals from WW2. Teabag got it right, blokes who have "done a bit" can soon spot a phoney.

brum Damn, I never ever got to the front of the NAAFI queue. No medal for me then! Interesting story but true. My best mates son in law has dual nationality i.e. British and American because his dad was a native American and yes I do mean a red indian. He joined the American airforce and served his full time. He usually applied for and got overseas postings to the UK. Happy, happy, happy. His job was air frame fitter or something like that and he was a master sergeant. When the yanks bombed Libya some years back they took off from the UK. He never left the ground but was awarded a medal along with everyone else on the base for the action. I am pleased to say he was slightly embarassed to get it but that would be the British part of him I suppose?

| At the time of the first Gulf War my son was a REME VM in Cyprus. He got the Gulf War medal, like everybody else, apparently Cyprus was in range of the Scud missiles ! Ah, you had to be fast for the old NAAFI medal mate, we wore Ammo boots in those days too. | |

Its not Glasgow where you apply nor your MP - You apply for it at the address below: It was the case that issues were staggered to when you joined, but now all who served at least 1 days pay are entitled as the main campaign is completed and all new service leavers get one issues as the leave. http://www.veterans-uk.info/vets_badge/vets_badge.htmPostal address: Service Personnel and Veterans Agency, Norcross Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire, FY5 3WP Fax: 01253 330561(UK Only) +44 1253 330561 (Overseas) Email: SPVA-VeteransBadges@mod.ukFreephone Helpline Free: 0800 169 2277 (UK only) Free: 0800 169 3458 (Minicom UK only) +44 1253 866043 (Overseas) I lost mine last year and e-mailed Norcross enquiring if I could purchase a replacement, and they sent me one FOC

| Interesting subject this. I applied for the Veterans pin seeing I did 4 years with 4 CIBG/CMBG in BOAR. And attached to 644 R. Sigs Tp in Cyprus. No luck, but they were nice about it. Also I got an ID card on pensioning off. Now there is a I.D. card for those who served in the Regular or Reserve Forces. Called Record of Service Card (NDI 75) Send in application, two coloured pass port photos and $15.OO you get one. Proving there is no such thing as a free meal from the Cdn Govt. | |

You must be the only one to have applied via Glasgow as all the references to the Veterans Badges say 'Vetrons Agency Norcross' you probably got refered there anyway as they process & post out the badges from that location. Re the Veterans ID Card, Yes it indeed has been on the go for a good few years, and still not started in the UK. Of course a BFG ID card is only valid in Germany, thats what it says on the tin!

| I am not knocking your suggestion, but simply pointing out what is published on the Veterans Web Site and elsewhere on the subject. If you got yours via Glasgow fine, but it seems to me to be better to apply to the correct office to start with.
Lets just agree to disagree on this point. and let people take thier pick on location.
