| My collection of militaria is miniscule compared with yours Brian .. I used to collect British cap badges , helmet plates, helmets and headgear anything military. At one point I had over 600 cap badges, 120 Helmet and Shako plates, 15 pieces of headgear, plus a load of Trench Art. It wasn't so much the collection that gave me joy but the finding of a rare piece. I used to spend hours in junk stores and pawn shops searching and checking with my magnifying glass checking the length of a key on a Gibraltar badge etc. One of my best was a collection of light infantry shako plates, all Victorian. But eventually we moved house and I sold the lot for just over $10,000 .. I felt in despair for weeks, almost in withdrawal.

| Hi Len I know how you feel,I once moved from a house into a flat,my cellar was full with military memorabilia And I had to sell it all because there way no room in the flat. The biggest mistake was Before Bindon Bks closed down here in Hameln,I want though all the bins and found some very nice things. In 1987 ?? Not sure any more. The Queen visited Hameln and she stayed over night in Bindon Bks I found a folder with all the information i.e were she was going. Who she will see What routes she will be taken Even the menus.(The food she was eating in the officer mess) Plus a lot more information. That could be worth a few bob now. Plus I had Prints ,plaques, pewter models even barrack signs . Sold the lot. Was I sad YES.. And a year later we moved back into a house. And I had to start collecting all over again . The things you see are all from e-bay.. | |

| Does anyone know where I could get a model of the AFV 432? Don't think the likes of airfix ever made one but obviously from the photo there are some out there. That's the armoured personnel carrier in case anyone is wondering what I am on about. Horrible, cold, dirty, noisy, smelly things but like anything you get an attachment to them. | |

You could always check out the link on the main site (left column, end of all the numbered links). He might know where you could get one. Paul.

| Teabag,
if you google the firm 'Accurate Armour' (sorry only just noticed that you've been given the link) then you'll find that they do resin kits of just about all of the cold war British vehicles. I've bought their Chieftain kit and it's immaculate. The 432 series includes the 434. Accurate Armour kits are quite expensive and if you are unfamiliar with resin kits, you may find the clean up process a bit off putting, but they are some of the most accurate (hence the name) on the market. I don't know of any other manufacturers who make cold war British stuff. Their Ferret series is excellent and priced at around £40 (ish). They've just brought out a Stally, but it's currently out of my price range as is their Antar.

| Brian, that is an incredible collection! Reminds me of my Dad's "room". He collected militaria as well, primarily cap badges and expanded from that into shoulder flashes and such...at one time he was one of the pre-eminent collectors in Canada with some rare pieces in his collection.
After he died in 1980 my Mom, reluctantly, sold off his collection as a collection. As I recall she said she got enough for "a small down payment on a house....". At the time, your average split-level family style home was going for $180,000Cdn. Down payments, if memory serves, were in around 10%, so she would have got approx. $18,000-$20,000 for it, which doesn't strike me as too 'out there.'

Paul. I obviously don't have the definitive answer, but it looks to me like the Dinky Toys Armoured Command Vehicle circa 1950s vintage in a strange paint scheme. In fact all the Military vehicles on that shelf appear to be Dinkys with "different" paint jobs. I hope Brian can shed some light on this? Mike

| Hi All Yes they are all Dinkys ,all printed Desert Army. Got them from e-bay Think they are called Code 3 Dinky.
The components have been entirely dismantled , then had all paintwork chemically removed. Then refinished in desert colours.
The AEC Armoured Command Vehicle color is a bit on the light side so is the Centruion tank on the bottem picture
