| If you served in BAOR
The following commemerative medals are available
General Service Cross BFG Medal BAOR Medal Cold War Medal THe Army Medal..RAF and RN have their own. This one comes with your Corps/Regimental badge on it
The full set plus minatures,Medal bars engraving and mounting will set you back around 500 quid
Then, i should imagine, if you had the brass neck to wear them, you would leave yourself open to a high level of ridicule |

| I wouldn't be seen dead wearing those. Talking about medals etc, I have as a uniform collector a replica tunic displaying the rank badges and medal ribbons as worn by FM Rommel. Quite a colourful affair correct in all detail. It was just a mad thing I did a couple of years ago, having been taken to his grave by my Sister, who lives near Augsburg - not far from Rommel's home. Silly old bugger arn't I | |

| Following a couple of local funerals I read in the local rag that these two guys had served in the late fifties early sixties, you would never have known. Hence this.
Graveside
Some soldiers died today, Though no one gave a care. For they were Cold War warriors, No medals hanging there.
A cheap and worthless badge, Was all they had to show. They all volunteered to serve, But no one would ever know.
Ready to defend this land, In times of peace or strife. Without exception they all stood, Though it might mean their life.
They were daily disrespected, By those they signed to serve. When they asked for recognition, They were told they "had a nerve".
But the greatest disrespect, From those they served alongside. Those who wore a gong or two, Reported absent from the graveside.

| There is a lot of it about Dave, however it did bring it home to me when I was serving out my time at Longmoor, we had lots of soldiers there either serving out their time or for other reasons like lost their driving licence etc, amongst these was a Corporal, he was serving his last couple of years to complete 22 . After a couple of months he went sick, after a lot of tests he was diagnosed with Liver Cancer, all the time we could we looked after him in one of the blocks, made sure someone always took him meals and so on, the Colonel spoke with his Family and they agreed to take him, this lasted a couple of months then he was sent back to us, we continued caring for him until he was admitted to the Cambridge to spend his last weeks, funny how suddenly there was a lot of interest from his so called Family when they wanted to know what he was worth and to collect his belongings. The Army actually looked after him well past his 22yrs | |

| Somehow don't think that would happen these days Les, he'd be shipped out to some civy hospital and then misunderstood until he passed. It does however beg the question we all should ask ourselves, should I do more for my fellow old soldiers, I think maybe I should. I've finally got my Enhanced CRB check paperwork back so will be starting as a caseworker for SSAFA shortly, I have also just sold three of my guns and will be making a couple of decent donations to forces charities. On the cancer thing, well I never stopped a bullet so looks like I'll have to die of something else, as long as the pain relief's ok I reckon it won't much matter what they call it.. | |
