I've recently come across this photo of my grandad Doug. He never spoke of his time in Germany but it where he met and fell in love with my grandma. Sadly they are no longer with us but I have a box full of letters that she sent to him with varying BAOR addresses. All in German!

No, unfortunately not but I have Google lensed a few of the letters! He wasn't enlisted until the 7th June 1945 and he left in 1948. That's about all I know

Hi, Best not to send any letters!
Maybe Locations and Unit Titles + accompanying photos would be of Interest to members. Of course any stories connected are always interesting .
Alan
Ps. Photos of address's have arrived. Maybe someone from the team will comment on Locations and Units?

The info photo regarding Grandad's docs have arrived.
I am interested in the name of the town where Grandad met Grandma? If it was Dissen? Then that area between Bielefeld and Osnabrueck was in a big area where British Servicemen were originally based post war, and remained in the area until we withdrew from in recent years.

Yes that's where she was from but I am not sure where they met. The story was she worked in a hotel that he was stationed in as I recall him stealing food for her to take for her family!

Welcome
Your Grandad was serving with Air Formation Signals, ASSU = Air Support Signals Unit with HQ in Minden later Herford, by Feb 48 back to Minden, cannot make out the crossed-out Signal Regiment, regarding 464 AL Section being a Royal Air Force unit not recorded, perhaps Advanced Landing Section, need an RAF expert to confirm. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Landing_Ground

Thank you Steve. Such a shame he wouldn't speak about his time there, it was only later in life when he had dementia he would start talking but then we don't know how much of that was memory or fiction. He quite often told a tale of being invited up in a mosquito
