| We had a DPM type cap yo go with our plain combat dress in Korea. The Yanks out there had one where the front was pushed up and the rank badge was put on that. Also, remember the Canadians out in Korea wore their rank on an epaulette like our services wear today, so perhaps the Canuks were the first to wear this style of rank recognition. | |

I remember those Canadian "epaulettes", worn on the front, way back, late 60s - early 70s. I thought they were a good idea at the time.

| Disruptive Pattern material.
Multi-Terrain Pattern (MTP) is a six-colour camouflage pattern intended to replace both the four colour woodland DPM uniform and the desert pattern uniform

| Disruptive Pattern Material (DPM) is the commonly used name of a camouflage pattern used by British forces as well many other armies worldwide, particularly in former British colonies.
The main variants of DPM are a four-colour woodland pattern, and desert patterns in two, three or four colours.
DPM has also been produced in black/white/grey, in various blue tones and even in purples (this last for the Swazi Royal Guard).
DPM is currently being phased out in British military service, being superseded by Multi-Terrain Pattern.

| Happy New Year! Hope you missed me..........
Just flipped through Alan 8376's bit on shrunken berets & things & was reminded of something I turned up on Google when seeking some reason why every item of Army top dressing seems to be hated......... My lot in the old days despised the beret, but that may have been because, being reluctant squaddies any sort of hat was never worn out of uniform, except, maybe, a flat cap for those whose finances could run to a BSA or Triumph two-wheeler.
Back to Google. I think I fed in something like ' Army Headgear' & turned up some illuminating stuff. REME, apparently, were meant to have some light coloured topping, but oily fingers scotched that one. And more relevant to Alan 8376's query on various materials, it does say that black berets were made of a different material & were more resistant to shrinking. So the question remains ....... come on, all you hat haters. what would be acceptable ?

As it falls to me, then flagellation with wet celery would be suitable in this instance. (Trouble is the bugger will probably enjoy it !).
