I used to flog Whisky and Ciggies to the owner of my local in Lippstadt then give him all the money back in exchange for Beer, Schnapps and Frikadellen. Happy days.

| I often used to go onto the "Harder" stuff when my drinking had reached a certain stage. I recall that I "experimented" with Korn,Schnapps and Steinhager (not together I hasten to add) but used to view with suspicion something wrapped in paper, with a twist at the top called (I think) Underberg, any idea what the stuff was (or did?) | |

| Do you think that the 'Other Side' - Dort Druben (DDR) and Warsaw Pact and Roosians were just as free with the old amber nectars as we were in BAOR? Or is it just me viewing my time in Fransica Barracks through the Beer Googles of the 1960s. I often thought (which is dangerous) that if the Roosians and Warsaw Pact military did attack, the early hours of a Sunday morning when the snores and stench of drunken nights in the NAAFi, Mess or downtown would have been be the best time to attack. I did read somewhere after the Berlin Wall fell, that the Warsaw Pact National Servicemen were as likely to be brahms & listz as well on cheap Russian Vodka..... | |

| Now that we are all Older and Wiser (I think), what are you drinking today? What is your favorite tipple, and do you still drink like yesteryear when young, fit and abroad in BAOR, or at more sedate pace that goes with your age and wisdom... Me, I don't partake of the alcoholic amber nectars.... I is a reformed character. Just a boring old fart, a Victor Meldrew who drinks nothing stronger than coffee, tea and fizzy drinks..... | |

[/quote] You do surprise me unclevanya!! I very rarely drink when I am back in the UK, when I do it would probably be a couple of cans of Stella Vier. The last time I drank anything of any quantity was at a Bty reunion around 4 years ago, the reunion was on the Saturday night and I was still ill on the following Wednesday. Back in the day I would drink Sh*** through a sweaty sock.

| We used to frequent a Minden bar (name escapes me) which charged 25 pfennigs for a beer. At four drinks for 1 mark, and 12 marks for £1 you can imagine the uproar of Thursday nights! | |
