| Dear All, The forum has now been slightly updated with a rank structure being formulated. I dare say that it might not correspond with your actual or last serving rank, but it adds to the fabric of the forum. Please feel free to leave feedback/suggestions. Talking about rank; the Chinese gentleman hell-bent on selling you some of his delightful clothing products has now been reduced to the ranks and given his marching orders. Rank and number of posts required Pte 1 LCpl 5 Cpl 10 Sgt 20 SSgt/CSgt 40 WOII 75 WOI 100 Capt 150 Maj 225 Lt Col 300 Col 400 Brig 500 Maj Gen 750 Lt Gen 1000 Gen 1500 FM 2500

| Cheers Bob.
It's something different and a way of rewarding those who are quite active. The Arrse website does the same thing, but with medals. Just as long as people don't start pulling 'forum rank' or trying to put people on jankers I think we'll be fine!
By the way, wondeful rank is SSgt.

| I think it was 76 - 78. Bad times to be there I do remember that. Sent there for 2 years for transgressions on my part!! Can't say it was the best posting of my career, although my daughter was born out there so some good came of it. | |

I was certainly not in the Royal Artillery!!!
Once a Fusilier, always a Fusilier.
The icon would be better a little smaller though.

| I tried to make them a little smaller, but without luck. If anyone knows how to using this Editboard type forums then please let me know.
Also, I didn't incorporate the subaltern ranks as it didn't make sense to go from WOI to essentially a trainee. Therefore; there are no direct entry officers on the forum, only late entry commissions.
The only folk now without rank are the administrators. If this wasn't the case I think Paul could well be the first to FM!

| Ok here we go. The icons are small pictures, and this case saved as a .gif file. As with all digital pictures you can do almost anything with them. The .gif file has another speciality in that the picture is made up from loads of other smaller pictures and grouped together as one picture, or in a sequence to make an animation. Larger graphic programs like Gimp, corel, Picasa, etc, but Gimp is at least free. But unless you have worked with extensive graphics, and are able to get around all the programmable switches, then I would advise against using these programs, but aim for some thing simpler. To make the .gif file (small picture) smaller, then download IrfanView 4.5, plus all the plugins. I must add that I don't work for IrfanView, nor do I have any connection with the firm but have been using this excellent piece of freeware for some 10 years. If you want any help you can mail me. I have added a link to show what I mean. Mike http://www.ebs-ncs.de/New_Loader/go.html | |

| Phil I agree SSgt was a great rank, but WO2/1 was even better. Then came the icing on the cake and had a great time/jobs until retirement in 1993. Will have to get busy with contributions if I am ever to make my actual rank.
